Comments from the chat pod

‘Personally I don't teach to a lot of different nationalities students, but I think that they need to know mostly how to write good essays (the structure and the kind of language required specially)’

‘Different universities and then departments within the university have different requirements for their writing styles and referencing especially. Literature-based degrees might be more personal or reflective compared to a business or science degree, and I usually teach Harvard referencing but have taught an in-sessional class for a course who needed something completely different (think it was Sports Management)'

‘learner training for learner autonomy leading to higher order thinking  skills.’

‘ in my university ,we start by giving students general foundation programme where they have the essential grammar before they start their EAP’

‘preview, view and review in different languages sounds interesting, but I wonder how this would work in English-speaking countries with learners of multiple nationalities’

'The study of academic cultures is very crucial, as there are a lot of variances'

'Having spoken to University tutors, the biggest problem tends to be academic writing, particularly but not exclusively, for non-native English language students.

'I am interacting with pre university students and we talk a lot about trans cultural sensitivity and how they can avoid offending readers of their academic writings and/or examiners'

'I find students can be very pardon my verb crass without meaning to!'
